Tiger Site that Earns its Stripes.
(Through the Internet Maze with Richard Griffiths)
I implore you to take a look at the site set up by Mayban Life. I had never come across the company before but that did not matter because as soon as I clicked on the site I thought 'I like this one'. Not because it appeared on my screen quickly. Not even because the words trust, integrity and professionalism are emblazoned on the top as reassuringly as the 'Don't Panic' on the cover of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
But because there is a smiling tiger in red dungarees that winks at you from the front page.
The whole design of the site is beautiful and completely distracts from the often baffling text that appears in some of the more serious sections. But that does not matter. If you want to read about their life insurance products and their company philosophy then you can do so. But I suspect what most people will head for is the section marked Fun and Games. Because, for once, the heading does not lie.
There is a maze puzzle (of that tiger) to challenge you, screensavers for PCs and Macs (featuring guess who again) and a treasure hunt with prizes. Anyone with Shockwave capability can also take part in a Commonwealth Games quiz. You can even send friends a colourful greeting card by e-mail.
This feature is actually just an ingenious way of getting more people to visit the web site but it works, and the concept could easily be copied.
Elsewhere you will find a calculator that works out monthly contributions for policies and three back issues of the company magazine that can be downloaded and viewed at a later date. All in all, this site is great. And it is one that quite a few UK insurers should try to emulate.
